2010 SUMMER SPANISH IMMERSION CAMP SESSIONS
Open to students in 1st – 6th grade
Monday – Friday, 9am – 12pm
Registration fee: $50
One 2-week session: $270
Two 2-week sessions: $510
Three 2-week sessions: $720
Registration fee and ½ of summer tuition is due by June 1, 2010. Remaining tuition due on first day of camp.
June 7 – 18, 2010 Basic Spanish
Students new to the Spanish language start their Spanish language adventure by learning basic vocabulary and beginning conversation skills. Specific vocabulary includes: numbers, colors, shapes, animals, days of the week, names of the months, seasons and emotions. They will also learn parts of the body, names of clothing, family member names, how to describe the five senses and tell time in Spanish. By the end of the class, students will also be expected to introduce and describe themselves and their classmates in Spanish The class is conducted in an “all-Spanish” immersion environment. Students will participate in a variety of dynamic activities, including songs, chants and rhymes, games, crafts and body movement. No previous knowledge of Spanish is required.
June 7 – 18, 2010 Vamos al Mercado! (Let’s Go to the Market)
In this fun and dynamic workshop, students will be immersed in the Spanish language as they learn about different foods and products we find at the market. They will practice asking and answering questions involving quantities, colors and tastes. Students will engage in role play activities, arts and crafts and fun vocabulary-building lessons centered around fruits, vegetables, animals and other common products. The class will be conducted in an “all-Spanish” immersion environment, aided by vibrant images, body movement and careful repetition. Some knowledge of Spanish is recommended.
June 21 – July 1, 2010 Vamos a la Playa! (Let’s Go to the Beach!)
This workshop is based on vocabulary specific to the beach and travel. Students will learn the names of ocean animals, as well as ways to describe vacation destinations. Students will participate in role-play activities, participate in arts and crafts, and learn new vocabulary through songs, chants and rhymes. The class will be conducted in an “all-Spanish” immersion environment, aided by vibrant images, body movement and careful repetition. Some knowledge of Spanish is recommended.
July 6 – 16, 2010 Vamos a Mexico! (Let’s Go to Mexico!)
During the final summer workshop, students will have fun learning about cultural traditions and celebrations in Mexico. They will learn about typical clothes, food and music found in different areas of the country. Students will help organize a traditional Mexican fiesta for the final class to show off their linguistic and cultural knowledge! The class will be conducted in an “all-Spanish” immersion environment, aided by vibrant images, body movement and careful repetition. Some knowledge of Spanish is recommended.
